A small amount of xenon is present in the air. Several compounds of xenon have been made in recent years.
A compound of xenon contained 9.825g of xenon, 1.200g of oxygen and 5.700g of fluorine.

Answer:

XeOF4

Explanation:

1.first determine masses of compounds

xenon= 9.825g   oxygen=1.2g     flourine= 5.7 g

2. find moles of elements  (moles= mass of element / Ar)

Xe= 9.825/131   = 0.075 mol

O = 1.2 / 16  = 0.075 mol

F = 5.7/19 = 0.3 mol

3. mole ratios (divide by smallest ratio)

Xe=0.075/0.075 = 1                             Xe :  O : F

O=0.075/0.075   =1                                1   :  1  :   4

F= 0.3/0.075      =4

empirical formula

    XeOF₄      (based on the ratios obtained above )
