Answer:

The prisoner and the bird seller

During a war a soldier was captured by the enemy. He was a prisoner of war for several years. After the war he was set free. He returned home to his own country.

One day he was sitting by the window and enjoying the view outside. Suddenly he saw a bird seller with birds in cages. He got up and went to the bird seller. He enquired about the price of the caged birds. He told the bird seller that he is going to buy all the birds. The bird seller was surprised and thought the man must be kidding him. It was something the bird seller has never encountered.

But the he soldier was not kidding. He actually bought all the birds in the cages. Then he opened the cages and set all the birds free. The bird seller was once again surprised by the behaviour of the man. Out of curiosity he asked the soldier, "Why did you buy the birds if you are not going to keep them?" The soldier replied “I was once a prisoner of war for several years. I know what it feels like to be caged and I know what it feels like to be a free man."
