Answer: 0.5 × 10⁻¹²m³

Explanation:

Bulk Modulus,

B = \frac{P}{\Delta V/V}

Where, P is the Pressure, ΔV is the change in volume and V is the original volume.

It is given in the question:

B = 140 GPa = 140 × 10⁹ Pa

P=70 Pa

V = a³ = (0.1 m)³=1×10⁻³m³  (a = edge of solid cube of copper)

We have to find ΔV

⇒ΔV = P V / B

⇒ΔV = (70 Pa×10⁻³m³) ÷ 140 × 10⁹ Pa = 0.5 × 10⁻¹²m³

Hence, volume contracts by 0.5 × 10⁻¹²m³
