A solid cube of side 12 cm is cut into 8 cubes of equal. find the side of new cube.​

Given:-

  • Side of initial cube = 12 cm
  • Number of new smaller cubes = 8

To find:-

  • Side of new cube

Answer:-

for first cube:

♦️Volume₁ = (edge)³

→ Volume₁ = (12 cm)³

→ Volume₁ = 1728 cm³

for new smaller cube:

Let the edge be x cm.

♦️ Volume of one cube = (edge)³

→ Volume of one cube = (x cm)³

→ Volume of one cube = x³ cm³

But there were 8 smaller cubes.

So,

♦️ total volume = Volume₂ = 8 * x³ cm³

Now, volume of the single cube before and the total volume of the 8 smaller new cubes after will be same.

Volume₁ = Volume₂

→ 1728 = 8 * x³

→ x³ = 1728/8 cm³

→ x³ = 216 cm³

x = 6 cm Ans
