The moment of inertia will be L = √3R

Explanation:

The moment of inertia of solid cylinder about its axis is given by:

I = ½ MR^2                          ……….. (i)

The moment of inertia perpendicular to the length is given by:

I = M (L^2/12 + R^2/4)         ……….. (ii)

Comparing equation (i) and (ii)

½ MR^2 = M (L^2/12 + R^2/4)

Solving for L,

L = √3R
