Given info : A solid metal block of 20 kg covers an area of 100 cm² on a tables surface where it is kept the pressure exerted by the block of the table is 20 × 10^Z Pascal

To find : the value of Z

Solution : pressure of a body is the force exerted by the body per unit area.

i.e., pressure = force/cross sectional area.

Here pressure exerted by solid block on the table is given by, P = weight of solid block/cross sectional area

= mg/A

= (20kg × 10 m/s²)/(100cm²)

= (200 N)/(100 × 10¯⁴ m²)

= 20 × 10¯⁵ N/m² = 20 × 10¯⁵ Pascal

Therefore the value of Z = -5

Pressure is defined as force applied per unit area on a body. It is defined as Force/Area.

Now it is given.

  • Mass of block - 20kgs
  • Area it covers - 100cm square
  • Pressure = 20 × 10^Z Pascal
  • Z = ?.

Now in this we know pressure would be :

f  \div area = ma \div area

20 \times 10\div 100

= 200 / 100 × 10^-5

 = 200\times  {10 }^{ - 5}

 = 20 \times  {10}^{ - 5}

Therefore we get Z = -5
