The weight of the ball= W = ρ V
The upward force=U =the weight of the displaced water
so,
U = ρwater V
given: U = W/2.
Therefore
ρwater V = 1/2 x ρsolid Vsolid
Vsolid / V = 1/2 x ρwater/ρsolid
also;
ρ water/ρ solid = 1/5
Hence
Vsolid / V = 1/10
