A solution contains 23 gram of ethanol and 72 gram of water calculate the mole fraction of ethanol and water

Mole fraction of the component = number of moles of the componenttotal number of moles of all the component
Number of moles  = mass of the componentMolar mass
Therefore, 
Molar mass of methyl alcohol (CH3OH) = 32 gmol​-1
Number of moles of methyl alcohol = 6032
= 1.875 mol
Similarly, molar mass of water = 18 gmol-1​
Number of moles of water = 12018
= 6.67 mol
Thus, total number of moles = 1.875 + 6.67 = 8.542 mol
Now, mole fraction of methyl alcohol = 1.8758.542
= 0.2195
Mole fraction of water = 6.678.542
= 0.781
