The mass percent of this solution is 6%.

A solution contains 30g of urea dissolved in 470g of water.

We have to find the mass percentage of this solution.

We know,

  • A solution has two components ; solute and solvent.
  • The component which presents in solution in lesser amount is solute
  • And the other which present is greater amount is solvent.

Concept : mass percent of a solution is the percentage ratio of mass of solute to the mass of solution.

i.e., mass percent of solution = mass of solute/mass of solution × 100

Here, urea is solute and water is solvent.

so the mass of solution = mass of solute + mass of solvent

= 30g + 470g = 500g

mass of solute = 30g

∴ mass percent of the solution = 30/500 × 100 = 6%

Therefore the mass percent of the solution is 6%.
