A solution of 6 % ( mass/volume)solution of urea is isotonic with :

a) 1 M solution of urea

Given:

Mass by volume concentration of urea solution = 6 %

To Find:

The solution from the given options which is isotonic with the given solution.

Calculation:

- 6% w/v urea solution means 6 g of urea is dissolved in 100 ml water.

⇒ w = 6 gm and V = 100 ml

- So, the molarity of urea solution:

M = (w × 1000)/(M.wt × V)

⇒ M = (6 × 1000)/(60 × 100)

M = 1 M

- Isotonic solution means the solutions which have the same osmotic pressure.

- At the same temperature, osmotic pressure depends upon the concentration of the solute.

⇒ So, 1 M urea solution will be isotonic with the given 6% w/v urea solution.
