Hey there !!

The substance that is used for white washing is known as calcium oxide [ CaO ]

When water is slowly added to it , calcium hydroxide is formed.

CaO + H₂O ---> Ca (OH)₂

This solution is applied on the walls [ white washing ].
Calcium hydroxide [ Ca(OH)₂ ] comes in contact with CO₂ present in air , and forms calcium carbonate [ limestone ] and water .

Ca(OH)₂ + CO₂  ----> CaCO₃ + H₂O

After two or three days after applying the solution of CaO , we can see a shiny appearance of white washing .
