Question -
A solution with a pH of 10 is 100 times more basic than a solution with pH 8. Explain.
Answer -
=> The pH of a solution is basically the negative logarithm of the [H+] ion concentration of a solution in molar -
- pH = -log₁₀[H+]
=> This means that for an increase in pH by n, the solution becomes 10ⁿ times more alkaline.
=> Here, the pH increases from 8 to 10, so difference in pH is 2, thus, the solution with pH 10 will be 10² = 100 times more basic than a solution with pH equal to 8 .
