A solution X turns blue litmus to red and solution Y turns red litmus to blue.
1) What derivatives are formed when X and Y are mixed ?
Name the gas evolved when pieces of magnesium added to solution ?
State whether a chemical reaction takes place if zinc pieces are added to solution Y. If so,
why ? If not, why?
iv) In the above two solutions which has more number of hydrogen ions.

Answer:

X is acid whereas Y is base

(I) Salt

(ii) when magnesium is added then H2 gas will evolve

(iii)The reaction will take place because Zinc is amphoteric in nature so it can react with bases as well

(ii) Magnesium will produce more number of hydrogen ion as it is acidic.
