A sons present age is half the present age of the mother . Ten years ago , the mother was thrice as old as her son . What are their present ages ??

→Let mother's current age be x.

→since the son's age is half mother's current age.,

→ son's present age will be x/2 .

→ 10 years ago, mother's age was thrice as old as the son.

The equation will be,

=> x-10 = (x/2-10)*3

=> x-10 = 3x/2-30

=> 2x-20 = 3x-60

=>  3x-2x = 60-20.

=>  x = 40,

Therefore , mother's current age is 40.

Son's current age is 1/2 of 40 = 20.

Hence, their present ages are 40 & 20 .
