CHANDIGARH: The Shimla-Chandigarh Diocese which runs the Sacred Heart School organised a special prayer meeting, here on Sunday to show solidarity towards the school and its principal Sister Sebastina.
Sister Sebastina was the school’s principal in September 1990 when 14-years-old Ruchika Girhotra was expelled, shortly after she was molested by former Haryana DGP SPS Rathore.
Bishops, priests and students, who attended the meet, claimed that the school’s name was being dragged into the controversy. Spokesperson for Shimla-Chandigarh diocese, Father Thomas Anchanikal, claimed that the principal and the management of the school were innocent, “The student committed suicide three years after she stopped coming to the school. How can they blame us?”
No legal action
Talking to reporters he said that the Diocese was not planning any legal action and, “the only concrete action we are taking against the injustice is praying to God.” He added that the school and its principal did not work for rewards, honours or prizes but imparting education only.
