A sponge has small pores so when we compress the sponge the air is expelled out.

but

when we remove force it regains its shape and came to its original shape so it is said to be a SOLID.

Answer:

A sponge is said to be a solid because sponges have minute pores which traps the air inside so when you give force to the sponge the air expels out air and the sponge is squashed
