1)Arteries have thick, elastic, muscular walls whereas veins have thin walls with few elastic fibres.
2)Arteries need these properties to give them the strength and elasticity needed to cope with the high pressure surges of oxygenated blood coming from the heart.
Hope it helps

Arteries:

  • They carry blood from heart to the body.
  • These are deep-seated in the body
  • They carry blood rich in oxygen (except the pulmonary artery)
  • They are thick walled
  • There are no valves present

Veins:

  • They carry blood from the body to the heart
  • These are superficial
  • They carry blood rich in carbon dioxide (except the pulmonary vein)
  • They have thin walls
  • A series of valves is present to prevent the back flow of deoxygenated blood.
