A spring With spring constant k when compressed by 1 cm the then potential energy stored is U if it is further compressed by 3 cm then change in potential energy

U = 0.5kx^2

U = 0.5k (1)^2
U = 0.5k

Final potential energy (U’) = 0.5 * k * (4)^2
= 16 * (0.5 k)
= 16U

Change in potential energy = 16U - U = 15U
