A square garden each of which is 20 m is traversed centrally by two paths at right angles to each other and is thus divided into four beds. If the paths are respectively 2m and 3m wide, find the area of each bed.

we know the length:20 m

                      breath :20 m

so area of whole square will be 20*20=400 m square

now the area of 2 meter wide path=  2*20=40 m square

and th area of 3 meter wide path=  3*18= 54 m square  (18 because it's 2 meter is already covered by 2 meter wide path as they intersect each other )

total area= paths will be 54+40=94 m square.

area of all four beds will be 400-94=306 m square.

it is a square so all beds will have  same area then,

area of 1 bed =306/4=76.5

answer  :       76.5 m square

shuklaakshay1234: ok no problem
shuklaakshay1234: any problem regarding this question
Raman11th: Thanks a lot
Raman11th: thanks thanks! !
Raman11th: pls give the diagram for my question
shuklaakshay1234: draw a square of twenty cm in your note book
shuklaakshay1234: draw 2 cm metre wide path from it's centre
shuklaakshay1234: horizontally
shuklaakshay1234: now draw 3 cm wide path at centre vertically
shuklaakshay1234: and happy dusshera
