We are given with the side of the square as = 5 cm .

Directly we can use the formula to find the diagonal of the square as :

a√2 units

= 5√2 units.

But it is used by senior classes only .

Till 8 th grade you have to use the below method :

In the square prepare the diagonal, then 2 imaginary triangles formed there.

Take any of the triangle with two equal sides as 5 cm.

We can find out the diagonal by using Pythagoras Theorem :

H²= B²+P²

H² = 5²+5²

H²=50

H = 5√2 cm

The required diagonal is of 5√2 cm.
