Given :

Current = i

Side = L

To find :

Magnetic moment of loop

Solution :

The magnetic moment of a current loop is the product of current and the area of current loop.

It is the tendency to arrange because of magnetic field.

It is denoted by M.

Its unit is Amp m² .

This vector is related to torque of the object to the magnetic field as

Torque = Cross product of Magnetic moment and Magnetic field

τ  = M \times B

where

τ = Torque on dipole.

M = Magnetic moment.

B = External magnetic field.

It is a vector quality whose direction is inside the loop when the current is clockwise in loop and

outside the loop when the current is anticlockwise in the loop or also called The right hand rule.

So,

The formula of magnetic moment M :

 \textbf{ \large \: Magnetic \: momemt \: M  = } \bf \: i \times area

Here

Current = i

Area of square = L²

So,

Magnetic moment :

M = iL² Amp m²
