Given:

  • A square room of side 12 m is to be surrounded by a verandah of width 3 m.

To Find:

  • The cost of constructing the verandah at the rate of 24 per square m.

Used Formula:

  • Area of square = (Side)²

Solution:

Let :-

  • Inner square mean the room
  • Outer square mean the verandah

As we have,

  • Side of inner Square = 12 m
  • Width of verandah = 3 m

Side of outer square = 12 + 3 + 3 = 18 m

Now, finding area of outer and inner sq.

Finding outer area:

Given,

  • Side of outer square = 18 m

Area of outer square = (18m)² = 324 m²

Finding inner area :

Given,

  • Side of inner area = 12 m

Area of inner square = (12m)² = 144 m²

Therefore,

Area of verandah = (324 - 144)m² = 180 m²

Hence,

Cost of constructing verandah at the rate of of Rs. 24 per sq.m = Rs.(180 × 24) = Rs.4320
