A square wire of side 3 cm is placed 25 cm away from a concave mirror of focal length 10 cm. What is the area enclosed by the image of the wire?(the centre of the wire is on the axis of the mirror,with its two sides normal to the axis)

From the lense formulae we have that the 1/f=1/v-1/u. Where f is the focal length of the lense, v is the object distance and u is the image distance.

So, on substituting the values in the equation we will get that 1/v=-1/10-1/(-25) which on solving we will get the value of v=-50/3 cm.

So, now magnification m = height of the image / height of the object which is given as m=-v/u or -(-50/3)/-25 = height of the image/3 Which on solving we will get the height of the image as -2 cm. So, the area will be (-2)^2 which is 4 cm^2.
