Let the distance of base of the staircase from the wall be x.

Assuming the structure, you can compare it with a right angle triangle where the staircase is the hypotenuse and the wall is the perpendicular.

therefore, from pythagoras theorem we get,

6.5² = 6² + x²

or, x² = 6.5² - 6²

or, x² = 42.25 - 36

or, x² = 6.25

or, x = √6.25 = 2.5

Therefore, the distance of base of the staircase from the wall is 2.5 meters.

HELLO DEAR,

let the distance of base of the staircase from the wall be xm.
[figure in the attachment]

now, AB = 6m , AC = 6.5m , BC = xm

and <B = 90° ,

so by Pythagoras theorem .

AC² = AB² + BC²

(6.5)² = (6)² + x²

42.25 = 36 + x²

x² = 42.25 - 36

x² = 6.25

x² = √6.25

x = 2.5m

HENCE, the distance of base of the staircase from the wall is 2.5m.

I HOPE ITS HELP YOU DEAR,
THANKS
