oxygen is needed for burning. a co2 extinguisher gives out CO2so that the oxygen supply is cut off gradually and the fire goes off. hope it helps u .pls mark me as brainliest!

Carbon dioxide creates a layer of itself and restricts oxygen to get in contact with the fire which indeed extinguishes the fire.
