  • They helps in absorption of water and minerals from the soil.
  • They also helps the plants in extraction of solid nitrogen from soil.

(ii) The two functions of stems are:-

  • They helps in the transportation of the food and water through it.
  • It also helps the plant to stand upright.

{b} The leaves are called the kitchen of a plant because the production of the food for the plant ie. the starch is formed over there in the presence of sunlight, chlorophyll and water.
