(a) state the law of conservation of momentum. (b) A mass of 200 kg is accelerated uniformly from a velocity 10m s-¹ to 16 m s-¹ in 12 seconds. calculate the initial and final momentum of the object and the force that brings about this change.

a) Law of conservation of momentum is that the total momenta of the system is equal to the total momenta of the system after getting a change in momentum.

b)

m = 200kg , u = 10m/s

p = mu

Initial momentum = 200×10 = 2000kg.m/s

m = 200kg , v = 16m/s

p = mv

Final momentum = 200×16 = 3200kg.m/s

v = u + at

16 = 10 + 12a

6 = 12a

a = 6/12 = 0.5m/s²

F = ma

= 200 × 0.5

= 100 N
