Given info: A stationary wave is formed in a pipe which is open at both ends.

To find : if length of pipe is 10cm, the maximum possible wavelength of the wave is..

Solution: It is based on propagation of wave through open organ pipe. you should know that fundamental resonance of wave in open organ pipe gives the maximum wavelength.

let the wavelength of wave is λ and length of open pipe is I.

so, length of pipe = λ/4 + λ/4

→ I = λ / 2

⇒ λ = 2I

but length of pipe is 10 cm.

therefore the maximum wavelength of pipe is 2 x 10 = 20cm.
