Electric field inside a current carrying conductor is zero coz the charges inside it distributes themselves on the surface of the conductor. The net charge in the current carrying wire is zero.

PROOF

consider a cylinder of radius R

assume a guassian surface of radius r<R coaxial to the cylindrical conductor

according to guass law there is no electric field inside a conductor as there is no charge inside the guassian surface
