Let the speed of the steamer in still water be ' x '
Time taken by steamer to go downstream = 9/ x+1
Time taken by steamer to go the upstream = 10/x - 1
9/ x+1 = 10/ x-1
9( x-1) = 10 (x +1)
9x -9 = 10 x + 10
9x -10x = 10 + 9
-x = 19
x = 19/-1 = 19 km /h (answer)
