Let the distance between two towns be =x

Speed of water =3km

Distance covered by the streamer in Downstream =x +3

Time taken to cover the distance in Downstream =15hr

Distance covered by the streamer in Upstream =x-3

Time taken to cover the distance in Upstream =20hr

Distance covered by the streamer in Downstream = Distance covered by the streamer in Upstream.

15(x+3) = 20(x-3)
15x+45 = 20x-60
20x-15x = - 60 - 45
5x = 105
x = 105/5
x= 21

So,the distance between two towns is 21km.
