A steel wire of length 20 cm is stretched to increase its length by 0.2 cm. Find the Lateral strain in the wire if the poisson's ratio for steel is 0.19.

Poisson’s ratio = Lateral strain / Longitudinal strain

Lateral strain = [0.2 cm / 20 cm] × 0.19 = 0.0019

∴ Lateral strain is 0.0019
