A stepdown transformer converts 2200 volt transmission line voltage to 220 volts. Number of turns in secondary coil are 500. Evaluate the no. of turns in primary coil

Given, input power (Vp )  = 2200V

Number of turns (n1)  = 3000

Output power (Vs)   = 220 V


⇒ 300

∴ Number of turns in the secondary winding, n2 = 300 turns.

The number of turns in primary coil .

Solution :

We know , in a transformer .

\dfrac{V_s}{V_p}=\dfrac{n_s}{n_p}

Putting all given values we get :

\dfrac{500}{n_p}=\dfrac{220}{2200}\\\\n_p=\dfrac{500\times 2200}{220}\\\\n_p=5000

Therefore , number of turns in primary coil are 5000 .
