Answer :

3.2 seconds

Solution :

Since the stone is dropped from rest

Initial velocity of the stone ( u ) = 0 m/s

Acceleration ( a ) = 9.8 m/s²

Distance traveled by stone ( s ) = 50 m

From second equation of motion

⇒ s = ut + 1/2 * at²

⇒ 50 = 0( t ) + 1/2 * 9.8t²

⇒ 50 = 0 + 4.9t²

⇒ 50 = 4.9t²

⇒ 50 / 4.9 = t²

⇒ 10.2 = t²

⇒ t² = √10.2 = 3.2 ( approx )

Therefore the stone takes 3.2 seconds to reach the bottom of the well.
