a stone is dropped from the top of a tower and it hits the ground at t = 3.5 second if the velocity of sound in air is 300 m/s find the time taken to hear the sound by a person on the top of the tower from the instant the body is dropped(take g=10m/s)​

The time at which stone hits the ground can be found by s=ut+  1/2gt  ^2

 

∴300=0×t+  1 /2 ×10×t  ^2

 ∴t=7.82s

Now, the time for sound to travel 300m is t= 340 /300  =0.88s

Therefore, total time will be addition of the two times.  

t=7.82+0.88=8.7s
