Hello friend...
This question contains 2 cases
CASE 1 : WHEN THE STONE IS DROPPED.
From the second equation of motion
i.e.
S = u*t + 1/2at^2
we can get the time taken by the stone to reach the suface of the well
=> 500 = (0)*t + 1/2(10)*t^2
=> 500 = 5*t^2
=> 100 = t^2
=> t = 10 seconds
So, it is obvious that a sound will be created after it reach the water level.
Now, the question says that after dropping the stone a sound was heard after 45/4 seconds,
which means that the sound will reach to that person at (45/4 -10) seconds, i.e. 5/4 seconds.
CASE 2: WHEN THE SOUND IS PRODUCED.
Now from the formula
i.e. speed = distance / time
we get...
speed of sound = 500/ 5/4
= 100*4 m/s
= 400 m/s

Hope you'll understand it.

Answer:
Explanation:
Time=5/4
Distance=500m
Speed=d/t
500/5/4. (Change the 4into nominator)
= 500*4/5
=2000/5
=400
Their fore speed=400m/s
