A stone is projected vertically upwards from a ground to a height of 25m if it reaches the point of projection after some time, then the distance and displacement of the stone are

distance=25+25=50m

displacement=25+(-25)=0m

 

displacement is a vector so we should consider its direction. let upward motion of stone is take +ve then downward motion of stone will be -ve

distance is a scalar so we donot consider its direction

Distance = 25+25=50m
Displacement = 25+(-25) = 0m
Distance  is a scalar quantity that refers to "how much ground an object has covered" during its motion. 
Displacement  is a vector quantity that refers to "how far is the object is from its original position".
Here the object returns to its original position, so its displacement is 0.
