Given
a=-10m/s²
u=5m/s
v=0
v²-u²=2as
0-25=2{-10}s
-25=-20s
s=25/20=5/4m
s=ut+1/2at²
5/4=5t+1/2{-10}t²
5t-5t²=5/4
5{t-t²}=5/4
t-t²=1/4
t-t²-1/4=0
-t²+t-1/4=0
-t²+1/2t+1/2t-1/4=0
-t{t-1/2}+1/2{t-1/2}=0
(-t+1/2)(t-1/2)=0
t=1/2s
