a stone is thrown in a vertically upwards direction with a velocity of 5m/s. If the acceleration of the stone during it's motion is 10m/s in the downward direction , what will be the height attained by the stone and how much time will it take to reach there?

When a body is thrown vertically upwards, its velocity is decreasing, so the acceleration is taken as negative.

When a body is thrown vertically upwards, its final velocity, v becomes zero.
