Answer:

Explanation:

Initial velocity of the ball (u) = 49m/s. The velocity of the ball at maximum height (v) = 0. Let us considered the time taken is t to reach the maximum height H. (2) The total time ball takes to return to the surface of the earth = 5 + 5 = 10 sec.

Question:-

A stone is thrown vertically upwards with velocity of 49 m/s calculate the total time taken by the to reach the surface of earth.

Solution:-

Given,

  • stone thrown vertically upwards with a velocity of 49 m/s.
  • Then calculate the time taken by the stone to reach ground.

We have to use second equation of motion to find the time:-

u = 49 m/s ; g = 9.8 m/s² ; v = 0 ; s = ?

➣ v² - u² = 2as

➣ 0 − (49)² = 2(−9.8)(s)

➣ -2401 = -19.6 s

➣ s = 2401/19.6

➣ s = 122.5 m

➣ v = u + at

➣ 0=49 − 9.8 t

➣ t = 5 sec

Total time taken by the stone to return to the surface of the ground is T = 2t = 10s
