A stone is tied to a thread and moved in a circular path. Is any force required to do this? Is there any change in speed of the stone?

no there is no change of speed in stone it is circular motion

hi there..
there are two types of forces acting here ,
as you would observe when the stone is in motion it remains outwards but as soon as you stop then it suddenly comes near to your hand..
two forces acting here:
when in motion-centrifugal force (helps in pulling the stone out)
when stops or still in motion-centripetal force(directs the stone to the center that is your hand)
well since these two forces act opp. so they cancel each other and the stone keeps on rotating in the circular path...
as for speed keeps on changing every second as at every second the direction keeps on changing so the velocity of the stone keeps on changing and speed is magnitude of velocity thus speed also changes....
