A stone of density 5.20 g/cm3 and volume 200 cm3 is completely submerged in a liquid of
density 1.20 g/cm3.
What is the magnitude of the upthrust acting on the stone?
Igravitational field strength = 10.0 N/kg]

Explanation:

upthrust = weight of volume of water displaced by stone

= m x g

= mass of displaced water x g

volume of stone equal to volume of water displaced.thus volume of displaced water is 200

then mass of displaced water is = density of liquid x volume

m = 1.20 x 200 = 240 g

upthrust = 240/ 1000 x 10

= 2.4 N
