mass of stone is 0.4 kg

velocity is 9.8 m/sec (initial)

Time is half second

acceleration is -9.8 m/sec²

Finding the height of the stone after half second :-

s = ut +  \frac{1}{2}a {t}^{2} \\  \\  \\s = 4.9 -  \frac{4.9}{4} \\  \\  \\ s = 4.9(1 -  \frac{1}{4}) \\  \\s =  \frac{4.9 \times 3}{4} \\  \\  \\s = 1.225 \times 3 \\  \\ s = 3.675 \: metres

We know that

potential energy is equal to:-

 = mgh \\  \\  \\  = 0.4 \times 9.8 \times 3.675

It is equal to 14.406 Joules
