A stone of mass 2kg is attached to a string 3m long and is whirled in a horizontal circle. The string can withstand a maximum tension 2.5 kg wt. Calculate maximum velocity of revolution that can be given to the stone without breaking the string.

Opposing the tension will be the centrifugal force of magnitude =MV²/R
Here M=2kg R=3m
Therefore Max centrifugal force =Max tension
MV²/R=2.5
V=(2.5*R/M)½
V=(2.5*3/2)½
V=(7.5/2)½
V=(3.75)½
V=1.936m/s
And angular velocity =1.936*3=5.809/s
