Always put your best foot forward

Simran was a beautiful little girl. Jovial and spirited she never bothered her parents as other children of her age usually did. Her neighbours never saw her throw tantrums or make a fuss. She was an ideal child every parent desired.

As days passed by it was time for Simran to go to school. But there was a slight problem, Simran could not speak distinctly. She stammered heavily. When the Principal asked her to recite a Nursery Rhyme she could hardly utter a word. But there was something amazing she did. Instead of reciting a rhyme she sang one and that was excellent.

As Simran grew so did her stammer. No therapist could help her. But her singing skills also flourished. She sang most beautifully.

After Graduation she appeared for her first job interview as a Music teacher. By then she was well aware of her strength and weakness. When the interviewers asked her the first question-to introduce herself, she sang her introduction in the form of a song she had cleverly composed.

Whatever questions the interviewers asked she answered in music. Towards the end of the interview when she saw that the interviewers were quite impressed and satisfied with her she softly handed them a note. In the note most calligraphically was written, ‘My weakness is stuttering and stammering but my strength is Music and singing.

The interviewers consulted each other for some time and finally congratulated her for being appointed. Simran had proved that it pays to put one’s best foot forward.  The first impression is always the last impression.
