After being allies in world war 2, the old powers came to a standstill on the global stage and the two superpowers entered into an open yet restricted rivalry called the Cold War, making a bipolar world. The Cold War never turned into an actual war due to the fear of nuclear weapons retaliation, rather, it revolved around political subversion, autonomy and proxy wars.
