ethanoic acid= CH3COOH

sodium bicarbonate= NaHCO3

When ethanoic acid is added to sodium bicarbonate salt, sodium acetate is formed and CO2 is released with brisk effervescence (brisk bubble formation).

Here is the equation :

CH3COOH + NaHCO3 → CH3COONa + CO2 ↑ + H2O

(acetic acid)  (sodium       (sodium acetate)

                    bicarbonate)
