Forests are considered the backbone of any civilisation since they provide essential commodities including food, shelter and timber. Without forests, none of the old civilisations would have flourished and none of our technological advances would have been possible.
From time immemorial, forests have provided shelter to millions of birds and animals. This is of importance, since these creatures help balance the ecosystem properly. Without them, the biosphere would not have come into existence.
Similarly, fruits and vegetables are essential to human health. The most important use of forests is in the oxygen that they produce. Without this oxygen, the whole human race would have been wiped out long ago.
