Correct Question:-

A student bought some pens at Rs 8 each and some pencils at Rs 1.50 each . I the total number of pens and pencils purchased is 16 and their total cost is Rs 50 find the number of pens he bought ?

Solution :

Total cost = Rs.50

Pen = Rs 8

Pencil = Rs. 150

Total Pen and pencil bought = 16 .

Let us frist assume that he bought all pencils

= 16 × 1.5 = Rs.24 .

Difference in the cost :

50 - 24 = 26 .

cost of pen and pencil :

8 - 1.5 = 6.5

Number of pens :

26 ÷ 6.5 = 4

Number of pencils :

16- 4 = 12

Hence, The student bought 12 pencils and 4 pens .
