Red is the colour of the pH paper when dipped in rainwater due to the following reasons:

- The rain water is acidic in nature due to the presence of pollutants gases in the atmosphere.

- The pH paper shows red colour in case of acid.

- The pH of rainwater would be around 5 to 5.5 that can be magnified due to dissolution of acidic industrial chemicals in to rain.

- The reason for the acidic nature of rainwater is due to the dissolution of sulphur dioxide, carbon dioxide nitrogen oxide pollution in the atmosphere.

- Sometimes pH of rainwater reaches around 4.0 due to bad pollution.
